Tess crichton shares her beauty essentials

Published on 26 August 2016

Originally set on becoming a primary school teacher, if it weren’t for a friend encouraging Tess Crichton to enter Girlfriend’s Model Search in 2011, Tess would never have caught the modelling bug.

Since placing in Queensland’s top eight in the competition, Tess has propelled her modelling career to international heights. The Toowoomba-based beauty has travelled the country, modelling for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, shot for leading fashion magazine Vogue Australia, as well as having worked alongside some of Australia’s top models like Jennifer Hawkins and Jessica Gomes. She’s also made her mark in the international market, shooting a campaign in Milan for GAP last year.

In between walking runways, jetsetting and shooting on set, we caught up with the 20-year-old model to find out exactly what beauty products she can’t live without.

What beauty products do you always have in your handbag for quick touch-ups?

I usually carry around lip gloss as well as powder for those especially hot Toowoomba days.

What’s your go-to handbag for every day?

When I’m going to a casting and when I especially need to impress, I take my Michael Kors satchel. But my staple everyday carry-all is a simple black handbag. It’s big enough to carry my wallet, phone, keys, diary, make-up, sunglasses and water bottle. Although, it’s so big I can hardly find anything in it!

Which pair of sunglasses do you always carry with you?

The pair I can’t live without right now would definitely have to be my cat eye sunglasses. I love them! I tend not to go for big designer name sunglasses. I’m one of those people who continually break or lose them, so I don’t want to waste my money.

What is your signature scent?

I love perfume! I think it can say so much about a person. I have a massive box of fragrances, which I choose from day to day. I usually wear Estee Lauder Modern Muse or Calvin Klein Sheer Beauty during the day, and Gucci Guilty or ZARA Gold for those extra special occasions.

What five make-up essentials can’t you live without?

I can’t live without foundation, concealer, mascara, dark red lipstick and a bit of blush.

Which beauty products should every woman use in Toowoomba?

I know all too well just how severe the weather can be in Toowoomba. I would definitely recommend Napoleon Perdis Lip Service. It’s a little bit pricey, but it has honestly healed every chapped lip I have ever gotten, in just one application! And of course, moisturiser.

Do you have a foolproof nail shade that works with all your outfits?

My favourite nail polish would definitely have to be a dark shade of plum, almost black. I think it can be casual and formal, as well as going with almost every outfit. I definitely don’t go past a bright pink or orange either!

When travelling, what three items do you always ensure you have with you?

When I’m travelling on a plane, I always take a cozy pair of socks. My feet always get so cold from the air conditioner. I also take my night mask and a good book.

What songs are on repeat in your playlist?

I love SIA, so my Spotify is filled with her and lots of other fun music that I can sing along to in the car. For the gym, any motivational music that I can draw inspiration from to just keep going.
