Practical and Beautiful Books for the Creative at Heart

Take a rest from the screen and immerse yourself in creativity. These practical and beautiful books are here to inspire your next weekend project.

Emma Bloomfield’s, Home, is the perfect companion during your home decorating journey. Helpful hints are scattered throughout. My favourite is the reminder to take time to find pieces that you love and resist the temptation to buy everything all at once. It takes you through decorating 101 like how to style cushions on the bed, how to configure your lounge room furniture and how to style artwork on the walls. All these and more are answered with gorgeous and helpful illustrations.

Sunshine Spaces is the latest book by artist, designer and illustrator, Beci Orpin. Her style is all about bringing the outdoors in with clever projects. Utilising easy to find materials like wood and flowers, Sunshine Spaces guides you through outdoor projects such as creating a hanging planter pot or perfecting the art of the flower crown. She also shares her tips on keeping your indoor plants alive for longer, flower arranging and outdoor flower installations. A uniquely beautiful and practical book, it would be a tragedy if this one stayed on the shelf.

It wouldn't be a collection of beautiful and practical reads without a food title thrown in. The Desserts of New York is by Australian food author, Yasmin Newman. It’s a dessert recipe book that doubles as a New York City guide book. The attractions, in this case, are the sweet treats she discovered in her travels. In addition to curating the perfect New York dessert trail, Yasmin also includes recipes inspired by the famous deserts she discovered.

All these titles and more are available at Dymocks in Grand Central on Level G, near Kmart.
