The flavours of Korean food are some of the most spectacular in Asian cooking – and now you can recreate them at home thanks to HanaroMart.

HanaroMart is Queensland’s largest and fastest-growing Asian supermarket chain, offering a portal into Korea via the distinctive food culture central to its national identity.
Famous for stocking Korea’s #1 King Size Dumpling and the delicious and healthy fruit vinegarettes that are used to make a refreshing ‘vinegarade’.

Toowoomba has a particularly special relationship with South Korea, as the northern city of Paju – home to half a million people in the country’s Gyeonggi Province – is one of Toowoomba Regional Council’s three sister cities around the world.

What better way to celebrate that relationship than with a Korean feast at home? Here are just two of the many great dishes that have made Korean food famous – and you can recreate them with groceries from HanaroMart.

30 minute bibimbap

Like any good stir fry, this mixed rice dish is open to endless variations of meat and vegetables – don’t be afraid to experiment.

400g beef mince
¼ cup soy sauce
3 tbsp sesame oil
½ tbsp olive oil
1/2 tbsp brown sugar
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 carrots, sliced into thin sticks
2 zucchini, sliced into thin sticks
100g bean sprouts
1 cup kimchi
100g baby spinach
4 eggs
2 cups rice (white or brown)
2 tbsp sesame seeds
2 tbsp sriracha
Handful of Korean seaweed

1. Stir fry vegetables separately with half the sesame oil and a splash of soy sauce, then set aside
2. Break up and flavour the mince by tossing it with the sriracha sauce, sugar and garlic
3. Use the remaining sesame oil to cook the meat, then remove from pan
4. Cook the eggs on the hot pan with a splash of olive oil, being careful not to overcook the yolks. You want it to be a little runny, so you can stir it through while eating
5. Place the rice inside wide serving bowls, then decorate with cooked veggies, spinach, seaweed and kimchi (if desired)
6. Add the beef, then top the dish with eggs and a generous sprinkling of sesame seeds and more sriracha to serve.

korean honey pork chops

These delicious marinated chops are quick to prepare and simply melt in your mouth.

4 bone-in pork chops (around 300g each)
1 tbsp olive oil
¼ cup soy sauce
2 tbsp honey
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp ginger, sliced finely
2 tsp sriracha
Parsley to garnish

1. Mix the soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, sriracha, garlic and ginger in a large bowl
2. Add the pork chops, turn to coat and marinate for at least half an hour in the fridge
3. Heat the oil in a pan, remove the pork chops from the marinade and cook until the meat is only slightly pink at the bone (around 6 minutes)
4. Turn the pork chops over, pouring the remaining marinade over the meat
5. Cook for another 5 minutes
6. Garnish with parsley and serve
