Spring Polo Fashion for a Family Affair

The call to the couch and the open fire has been persuasive and the obsession with ‘Stranger Things’ on Netflix is real…but its time to come out of hibernation because spring is in the air and what better way to celebrate the break of winter than a day out at the polo.
Its time to polish up those pins; book yourself in for some well deserved primping and priming and grab your favourite humans for the grandest garden party of them all, the spring polo.

When it comes to selecting your outfit for the first major event on spring’s social calendar, for the ladies there is a chic, understated elegance required, and gentlemen, nothing less than dashing and dapper for you!
To enhance your fashion prowess we have pieced together our top tips for nailing the dress code and for the ultimate in styling inspiration head to the digital runway in our fashion precinct for a fashionable feast of polo ready looks available now from all your favourite retailers.

#1 No sinking violets please

Ladies, this is the day when we leave our stilettos at home but for those of you, who need a little height in your life, don’t despair; wedges and platforms are 100% acceptable and at a stretch a block heel will do. BUT for the ultimate in all day comfort, a fabulous pair of flats will reign supreme for the traditional divot stomping! And for the boys, brogues and loafers are the order of the day; simply dashing!

#2 Spring says swish

We nominate that ‘swish’ be designated its own dress code!
The polo is the perfect occasion for floaty full-length dresses and jumpsuits in playful prints.
Of course an all white ensemble is as fresh as a daisy and oh so chic and pastels will never fail to delight. If you prefer something a little more traditional, keep it classic with relaxed tailoring and why not consider a pair of shorts paired with a jacket and played down with the perfect flat.
Gents, remember our style code for you is dashing and dapper. A tailored short with a blazer or sports jacket will draw attention for all the right reasons and a chino and relaxed linen shirt will keep you in comfort all day. If you love your denim, choose something in white and keep your traditional blues at home. Don’t be afraid to play with pops of colour and print to keep you on the best-dressed list!

#3 Make your statement

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, accessories are the perfect (and easiest) way to personalise your style and the good news story is that great accessories don’t have to break the bank.

Layering necklaces in varying lengths is perfectly understated and elegant and if you prefer to create a bold statement think oversized earrings or a statement necklace.
Gentlemen, nothing too formal required for the polo but if you want to increase the dapper factor, consider a colourful pocket square for your blazer or sports coat.

And last but not least, don’t forget your sunglasses, the perfect frame will complete your look in style.

#4 Headwear (minus the fascinators)

There may be ponies but this is not spring carnival so the number #1 rule is to save your fascinators for the races.
If you are opting for a hat, make your selection from boater hats, wide brimmed sunhats, panamas and fedoras. Another option of course is a headscarf; a very chic choice that will add more than a touch of class and glamour to your outfit.

Gents; consider a classic panama, fedora or safari hat – perfect polo attire.

 #5 for the kids

And if you decide to make this year’s polo event a family affair, don’t forget to follow suit with the style rules for your minis. Our advice is to keep it classic and to have fun with some colour and as far as their shoes go, makes sure that comfort is high on the priority list so their little feet last beyond the divot stomping!

For the girls, you can’t go beyond playing with the prints and bright colours that have hit the stores just in time for spring, and dresses just aren’t ’their thing’, opt for a jumpsuit which will give them the freedom they need to run around all day long while still looking the part. Have fun with her accessories and seek out clips, headbands and wide brimmed hats. Bags with long shoulder straps are perfect for the little ones as they can wear it cross body… life is so much better for them when it’s hands free!

For the boys, remember dashing and dapper. Shirts in natural fibres such as linen are easily styled back with a chino or a short. If you are opting for shorts, look for a straight rather than a rolled hem to avoid a coastal vibe.  To really increase the cute factor, consider a blazer for the little men in your world. They will steal the show. Finally, a wide brimmed hat will keep them well within the style stakes and if they are up for it why not add some braces for fun! Boat shoes are a great option to complete the outfit, but a fresh little pair of sneakers will also do the trick.

A day out at the polo – its’ spring’s coming out party! See you there!
